Waves Leisure Centre COVID-19 coronavirus update

Update Tuesday 17 March

 

Kingston is temporarily closing our public libraries, Waves Leisure Centre and Kingston Arts programs from 3pm Wednesday 18 March to try to help slow the spread of COVID-19 within the community.

Essential services such as waste/recycling, childcare facilities, public health immunisation sessions will continue to operate.

Our Customer Care counters at Cheltenham and Chelsea will also be closed, however we can assist you with any queries via phone (1300 653 356) email (info@kingston.vic.gov.au) or via our social media channels.

Why has the City of Kingston closed the Waves Leisure Centre? 

The City of Kingston has temporarily closed all of our public libraries, arts centre programs and leisure centre from 3pm on Wednesday 18 March.

They will remain closed until Tuesday 14 April 2020, with the possibility of this closure being extended.

We are doing this to try to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus within the community.

This means that the entire Waves Leisure Centre will be closed during that time including:

  • Gym
  • Fitness Classes – including those at other sites (Mordialloc Community Centre, Yoga in the Park)
  • Swim School
  • Cheltenham Swimming Club
  • Lap Swimming/Wave Pool/Recreational Swimming
  • Sauna/Spa
  • Creche Services

 

What happens to my Waves Leisure Centre membership?

All memberships will be suspended during the closure period, no direct debit payments will be processed, and an extension will be provided to upfront paying members

 

What happens to Swim School Classes and payments?

All swimming lessons will be suspended until the end of term. 

Direct debit payments will be suspended and upfront paying members will receive a credit for cancelled lessons in Term 1. 

Re-enrolment for Term 2 will continue in order for customers to secure their lessons day/time, this will occur automatically for direct debit members, however no payments will be deducted until the Centre re-opens. 

Term-based members should still contact the Centre directly, or visit our website for details if you haven’t already done so for Term 2. 

School holiday swimming lessons have been cancelled and participants can contact the Centre for a credit/refund.

 

What happens to booked birthday parties/hire by groups?

Staff will be contacting you directly to discuss your booking.

Waves Customer Service will continue to be available via phone, email and Facebook throughout the closure Monday-Friday 9am-5pm on 9559 7111.  Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates throughout the closure period.
