Group Exercise Instructor of the Year Winner!!!

We are very proud to announce Sue Terrell as the Aquatic and Recreation Victoria’s Group Exercise Instructor of the Year, 2023, awarded on Friday 23 June.

Sue Terrell has been a dedicated and long-standing instructor within the Waves group exercise team. With 20yrs of service, she has all the attributes of a professional, outstanding and community-centric instructor. She is a valuable employee and is a role model to many members and patrons.

There is no better group fitness instructor that personifies professionalism and diversity. Sue has been present across multi group fitness platforms teaching wellness and older adult programs to both our members and the broader Kingston community.

Coupled with her good humour and a knack for sliding jokes in-between choreography cueing, Sue’s combined professional and practical approach to instructing ensures her unique personal character is unmatched.

It has been Sue’s work within the community and locations offsite from Waves, that allow Kingston Active to extend the services beyond the walls of the group fitness room. Yoga at Mentone has become one of the unique locations for members and casual participants, encompassing a beautiful tranquil garden of lush foliage at the Keith Styles reserve. Sue’s unique ability to incorporate and coordinate participants offsite, with ease and professionalism, has ensured a successful reach of group classes to a broader community within Kingston Council.

In additional to her wellness classes Sue also teaches Active Seniors classes at the Gerry Green pavilion in Parkdale. She has been an integral team player in bringing together a community that required much needed attention and continuous physical movement through our Strength & Stretch program at Parkdale. Since the closure of our second facility (Don Tatnell), members located further from Waves and eager to stay close to their home ground, joined Sue’s class at a secondary offsite location.

We are very excited to have Sue win this highly esteemed title of Group Exercise Instructor of the Year, and we couldn’t be prouder.
